Dinner for two tonight in London
« on: August 17, 2011, 02:14:19 am »

I fancy a nice romantic meal with Lyn, suggestions for nice places in London? £150 budget. Both meat eaters.

One of the Gaucho chain of Argentinian places? - very meaty.

If you can get a table at short notice, it's just about the most romantic restaurant I know in London.  I'm told that the meaty food there is rather good, too.

Thirded! (although I've only experienced the one in York)

Mmmmm .... steak!  :)

Went there for a group meal a couple of months ago.  Fantastic steak and the best pork belly I've ever had as a starter.  Not cheap, but superb quality.  Seven Dials one extremely central for Covent Garden / W End.
Why not?

No tables at Edmunds. Candlelit/Homely would be preffered over ultra modern.

Not homely, but it does have a lovely intimate atmosphere in the evening. The Terrace in Piccadilly Circus - http://www.tastecard.co.uk/restaurant.php?id=937&address=SW1A%202JR&qty=50

The food is absolutely mouthwatering.

For a brilliant homely/classical place, look at http://www.lechardon.co.uk/ - We have eaten in the Dulwich and Clapham ones. They look nothing like their photographs on the inside! The decor is a little cliche, but tasteful at the same time.  Exceptional French quisine.

If you can get yourself to EC1 before 1730hrs today, you would be welcome to borrow my Taste card to swipe 50% off your food bill from either of the above restaurants = moar food! :D

Not Gaucho, I've been there with clients a couple of times and always been underwhelmed, feels too much like a chain restaurant.

Bocca di Lupo in Soho would get my vote.

I second the Bocca di Lupo, a friend of a friend owns that resturant and it is the Italian place to go to in the West End.

Also, Hix Oyster & Chop House (next to Smithfield Market). Roast above Borough Market is wonderful too.

Not eaten out in London recently, have you?

Seconded to Charlotte's recommendation of Andrew Edmunds, though I've not eaten there myself for some years.

We went out for a walk and go soaked so ended up at The Hartley Pub, which is under new management. Lovely food was had :) Infact surprisingly good. Whole bill including starters, mains, cocktails and wine came in at just over £30.

Sounds good. Where was that?

I used to go to Diwana Bhel Poori on Drummond Street for cheap and plentiful bhel poori and dosas when I worked up that end of town, but I rarely find myself in the area now. Not sure it would be my choice for a romantic dinner for two though.
