Yebbut most of what's been described here has been substantial fare, more appropriate for a main meal.

Macc+Cheese and Cub's favourite - Chopped Up Cold Veg.

All ingredients own brand/smart price/everyday value/aldi/special offer versions.

500g macc - 50p
mozzerella ball - 44p
about a pint of milk - 35p
handful grated cheddar - 40p
red leicester - 30p
thinckening granules - about 5p
coarse grain mustard and marigold bouillon - about 5p

total cost - £2:09

But that was split into 2.  One lot for tonight, one lot for the freezer.  So we'll call it £1.05.

Add 22p for half a packet of cooked beetroot, 20p for a third of a cucumber, 10p for a couple of handfuls of frozen peas (still frozen - my kids are weird), 20p for a couple of gherkins.  Round up a bit, call it 75p.

I make that £1.80.  For three of us.  Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, Mr Oliver.

Blimey - where do you get a pint of milk for 35p?  :o

I'm more concerned about a cheese sauce that contains NO BUTTER and THICKENING GRANULES

Also- not enough cheese for my lot. We need full flavour cheddar, and sadly, that's not available smart price, we have to bulk buy half price cathedral (or whatever's on offer).

We had spag bol:
cheap spag (32p)
Cheap mince (182p)
tinned tomatoes (34p)
an oxo cube (8p)
smelly cheese (25p)
pepper (30p)
mushrooms (25p)
£3.36- for 4. Mind, we're bigger than you, Crinkles.

(Living, as we do, below the poverty line, having a local authority fucking up your housing benefit at the same time as the tax credit people decide you don't exist any more has been a bit of a strain.)

As one quarter of a 4 pint flagon :)

And I was being lazy fboab ;)

However I have realised, in light of your comments, that I have shockingly underreported my costs.  There was also a tub of tesco value cream cheese@49p in there, so nearly an extra 25p per 3-person-meal's worth. Taking tonight's dinner over the 2quid mark!

Yep, my boy loves frozen peas. We usually have to give him a handful to munch whilst the ones to go with his dinner are cooking!

Thai Green Freezer Curry.  Tonight's freezer finds included veggie "chicken" pieces, green beans, peas and mixed peppers.

Venison steak. Seasoned with a touch of black pepper and some smoked sea salt.

Chips and sweet potato wedges, cooked with smoked paprika and again, smoked sea salt. Carrots and broccoli, steamed. A tomato and pepper salsa.

Mmmm.

Home-made split pea + miscellany soup.

150g split peas, soaked overnight
4 finely-cut bacon rashers
2 suboptimal home-grown tomatoes
2 small suboptimal onions
Broccoli stem left neglected in fridge

Boiled for 2 hours, seasoned and served with buttered toast.

Mrs Pcolbeck is feeling off colour and doesnt want any tea, Master Pcolbeck is off to his mates for an all night video gameathon so its just me. So a guilty pleasure take away pizza a bottle of red and a good book. Bliss.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Cambozola and chorizo.

You take chunks of cheese, and wrap 'em in slices of fatty meat.

Watch those arteries fur.

Ah yes. That moment early in a low-carb phase when you scoop up another tablespoon of butter and think "God, I hope the books are right!"

Stir Fry Chicken in Veg with extra butter and Olive Oil for me tonight. No noodles, but extra veg.

Oh oh... Cauliflower Mash tomorrow!!!

Nice idea but it never quite works like that for me.  :-[

I tend to gorge myself and eat half of it the first go (I love pizza but we rarely get one) and a quarter for lunch and supper the next day.
