The last (or last but one) portion of the last of last years beef stew - with some reheated mashed potatoe (had our first mash of the winter last night, yum!) and sprouts and cauliflower.

Cajun fish. I WILL get round to making a spice blend of my own, but honestly, I like the Saino's one and will use that.

I'll dice some of the King Eddies from t'garden and roast 'em. Salad, possibly?

Was really, really in the mood for a spicy, beany, veggie chilli kind of affair. Been thinking about it all day. Daydreaming about it.

With no discussion, I got home to the smell of exactly that being cooked, but - but - with dollops of maize-meal batter splodged on the top and then baked, to form a sort of bean chilli/cornbread cobbler.

Utterly perfect.

For the love of Brussels sprouts and brown food

Meera Sodha's recipe for dirty shaved Brussels nasi goreng, but substituting the pickled raw sprouts topping with tangy beni shoga and crispy shallots (www.souschef.co.uk for oddball ingredients)

Softy, almost hard boiled eggs - just set so and wobbly gooey - kept warm = important re timing of both parameters

With steamed or microwaved purple sprouting/ tenderstem broccoli, cut into bite sized bits

Heat up a saucepan of butter, olive oil, garlic, a tsp or so of garam masala  + (diced red chilli optional)

Put cooked veg in favourite bowl, mix with buttery fragrant sauce. Top with sliced in half wobbly eggs. Sprinkle with red peppercorns.

Enjoy with the almost runny yolks dribbling down one's beard (optional)

ps also good to add some 40mm thin fingers of, but not quite juliened carrots for extra colour/might be gilding the lily though? (optional)

^ Same again tonight, but with the addition of a tsp of ground cardamom to the 'sauce' and some frozen broad beans, in place of last night's wild card carrot batons

Had Christmas dinner for supper last night. Including Christmas pudding, with custard and stollen. But no cake. Hic. And mulled wine. Hic hic.

Slow cooked / casserole of venison. I'm looking for a recipe but I bet I'll just end up doing exactly what I do with the pork cheeks.

Not exciting sounding, but surprisingly num nums - spiced roast cauli and butter beans

1 cauliflower, broken into bite-sized chunks
1 medium onion, finely sliced
1 tsp smoked paprika (Slope likes La Chinata)
1 tsp ground cumin
½ tsp ground coriander
3 cloves garlic, crushed
4 tbsp olive oil
½ tsp fine sea salt
1 tin butter beans, drained and rinsed
Juice of half a lemon
1 small bunch fresh coriander, leaves only

Preheat the oven to 200C/180C fan. Put all the ingredients except the beans, lemon juice and fresh coriander into a mixing bowl and mix together with your hands until everything is evenly coated with oil and spices. Transfer to a baking tray and bake in the centre of the oven for 25-30 minutes, until just tender and starting to crisp around the edges.

Remove from the oven, add the beans and lemon juice, toss everything gently, then return to the oven for a few minutes, just until the beans are warm.

Divide the coriander between the plates and place the cauliflower on top, making sure you scrape all the juices and spices off the tray. Serve with chunks of fresh bread.

Re-heated lasagna made with homemade bolognaise and Barilla gluten-free lasanga pasta.. not bad really! just cook it and let it sit in the fridge for 24 hours... pasta soaks up water and becomes actually not bad...
