Thanks for posting this link, Clarion. Read it in the canteen earlier and then it went out of my head. Really quite touching

£10 19s 6d sounds a low price for a performance bike, even in 1948. But then they did describe it as "weighty steel"    and the later bit on boxer Ron Cooper had him marrying at age 12, if their figures are right
