Well that was a really epic ride. The weather was "inclement" from the 6am start on Saturday right through to around 4am on Sunday, with torrential rain and a block headwind for 300km right across from Robin Hoods Bay to Seascale. On the top of the moors it dropped down to 4 degrees overnight, so some of the descents in particular were cold, despite wearing full winter kit. Many of the steep descents were very very dicey in the wet, with the tyres on the very limit of adhesion - more than once I was searching for a place to aim for for a soft landing as the tyres were locking up.
However, come Sunday morning, the sun came out and the day got nicer and nicer as it went on, and was in full June glory just in time for a very sweaty climb up Hardknott & Wrynose.
A realy epic event and not as hard as the 10,000m of climb suggests, as much (but not all!) of that climbing is nice steady gradients.
thanks Andy!
