Crikey, The City of Gold and Lead was one of my favourite childhood reads - the despondent middle book, with a vein of hope at the end...

Don't know why I never got round to reading his stuff
I'm a bit maxed out with post-pocalypse stuff. After a few books/films it all starts to cover the same ground and just gets depressing (I couldn't face "The Road"! ).
Possibly a genre I'll return to in a few years time ...
