I'm interested. Your welcome to use the office too. Not exactly loads room atm but should be big enough?

I'd be interested - it has just occurred to me that when I go touring, I'm not intending to cycle at night at all, so it makes no sense to haul round my SON front wheel when I can have a much lighter wheel & take a small front light for emergencies.  Thus: new front wheel needed.

I think doop might be interested as well - he has my non-dynamo front wheel for the fixie & I want it back sometime this summer :)

That's a fab idea, Sam.  It's a bit out of the way for me, but if everyone can get there, it sounds like it could be a go-er.  Lack of liquid refreshment of course.  But as I recall, you're not short of good takeaways in your neck of the woods and I'm sure there's an offey nearby.

BEER, curry and wheelbuilding anyone?

I built my last two wheels by the light of a paraffin lamp, in a shed, last Christmas Eve.

do you want us to each bring the bits we want to turn into a wheel, or will we be watching you build one while we eat samosas and drink beer?

Either.  I'm happy to do it as a demo, but you'll learn better if you do it with me.

As it were  ;)

Even if you have no pressing need for a new wheel, I'd recommend investing a few bob inna cheap rim and some spokes - I can advise you on what to buy and from where if needs be.  You can always take it apart afterwards (but I bet you won't!)

Is everyone else good for the Wednesday?  it was only a suggested date, I didn't want people to diarize just yet...

So where would people prefer it to be? If at the office, I'll drop an email around.

There is a cheap offy around the corner and as stated we have Lebonese/Indian/Dominos/Chinese take aways.

I can do the 7th but  equally, am flexible if peeps prefer to do a different date.
Given the choice, a Limehouse location would be preferable to the provinces*.

I'm up for this - but being a complete novice, what do I need to build a wheel and where do I get it from.  How many spokes should I buy, etc?

Good question.

What I'm going to do is to suggest that anyone who's not sure about what components to buy, goes for a cheap, vanilla front wheel or a cheap fixie rear for their first build.  I'm thinking I'll post two lists of components, one for each, based round the lovely Rigida Chrina rim, currently only £18 at Spa Cycles.  I'll tell you what spoke lengths to get to go with the suggested hubs and then you just need to order the bits.

If you want to build anything else, calculating spoke lengths and so on isn't hard.  How's that for an idea?

In deference to Juliet and Marna, I'm not going to say Wednesday 7th May now.  Let's call it the day before; Tuesday 6th May.

Sam has offered his office space in Limehouse, so pending further notice, I reckon that's a fab venue.  All we have to do now is set up something so people can watch via webcam.  Either that, or we'll podcast it afterwards.

Well, either day is unfortunately not good for me but being able to view it later is what I would call absolutely bloody brilliant.  ;D ;D

Can't wait to see you in action ...
