Not out 'cos wrenched shoulder but rather pleased with a shot I took to sell my Rok:

20-year-old Nikon 50mm f/1.8. Delightful.

Of course, holding up the §$%&/( camera got my shoulder moaning again.
I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

Not exactly today as one had to wait for the film to be developed. First film in over a decade .

Nikon FM2n, 35mm fsomething, TMax 400, as shot. Rye, East Sussex

A very zen experience going back to film (and fun!)

Was out allegedly taking pics of insulation works to park homes at 0730 today, so availed myself of a few sunrise over the sea at Stokes Bay, type pics.  Strange how golden early morning light and a few palm/yucca/whatever tropical trees can do for something as prosaic as the Diving Museum on a cold and blustery morning.

I must actually get around to posting a few pics here again...

You might think jigsaw puzzles are a bit OT, but supposing I told you can make jigsaw puzzles out of your own photos?

http://us.mensa.org/play/games/games/universal-jigsaw/

It certainly gives a different perspective in (background) detail and subtle gradations in colour/shade, while abstract shots pose a greater challenge.

Not that I want to distract any of you from getting out there taking wonderful photographs in all conditions...

It may be self-flagellation, but it still hurts

Been in the studio the last few days, boning up on my product photography.  Not my usual thing, but I'm pretty sure a client's going to ask me to do this sort of work at some stage and I want to make sure I'm right on my game when they do...

Every time I look at this, I think to myself "Hmm... Would it have looked better if I'd centered myself between the tracks instead of over one set?" The light flare from some grease on the lens annoys me.

Nice set-up.

I just watched a vid of a pro shooting a bottle and they made a fake window by taping a black grid, in gaffer tape, on one of the soft-boxes.  Gave a really nice. convincing, effect in the reflection.

Shooting shiny things is *hard*.  Ideally, I could have been using tracing paper rather than studio rolls for my double diffusion material as I had to pump a lot of watt-seconds through there to get the effect I needed.  Oddly, I think it looks best when the left and right side highlights aren't exactly symmetrical, hence the RHS softbox being an extra foot away.

The above shot took me about a day to get really right.  That involved reading some articles, watching some videos, doing a *lot* of buggering about and re-jigging lighting.  Once it was nearing done, I nipped round the corder to Tesco for some glycerin and a squirty bottle (top tip: a glycerin/water mix squirted on a glass bottle looks exactly like it's just come out of the fridge and is covered in beads of condensation).

Not a bad effort really, looks like you might be going the right way.

Out above Windermere, test-filming some horse-logging. The contractor has definite ideas about what he wants to say. No money in it, but it gets me out of the house.

I made a picture of an actor at the BBC (actually, at the Costa just outside Broadcasting House) with the son of an author whose book he was reading an excerpt from.

It's hard to get a bad picture of Runswick Bay but much harder to get one like that - marvellous!
