Not far from me, there's an "Anker Lane". Seriously.

I believe various attempts at designing or buying "vandal proof" signage, while consuming a chunk of council budget have always been in vain.

That must be in Stubbington?  Not been there for a few years now, but I always thought that there wasn't much of a leading space on the sign.

I used to drive/cycle to work through a village in Bedfordshire called Salford but locally pronounced as "Safford".  Every time TPTB replaced the "L" it would soon be removed.

In my Air Cadet days we used to sometimes get the train to Shrewsbury which passed through Shifnal - apparently regularly modified.

Always thought that the sign for Sarehole Road in Hall Green was ripe for modification, although that would mean rearrangement of the letters, and if that were allowed then no sign for Newark would be safe.

Seen in Lincolnshire a few years ago (in Spilsby, I think), a local road sign:

To Old Bolingbroke
& Mavis Enderby
- a son

My mate in France has several trailers, the last one of which he bought whilst visiting the UK.

I found it difficult not to get creative with insulation tape the last time we visited.

The trailer brand is 'ERDE' . . .  ::-)

Apparently Tolkien's Shire was partly inspired by Arse Sarehole Mill.

As most of the reflective signs seem to use vinyl self-adhesive lettering, a bit of heat would probably allow them to be peeled off and reattached (or replaced).    Probably easier to order some white reflective vinyl and some letters (choose an anagram with a few extra letters involved, to throw spoilsports off the scent) and then go and do it in one quick hit, Banksy-style.  Now, what's the font used on local direction signs?

I should be ashamed of not rising to that one myself, as my mate Pascal's trailer is an Erde, too.  I'm sure one could make something of a "Brenderup" trailer, too.

I'd be seriously impressed if you could do something with 'IFOR WILLIAMS'  ;D

A couple of miles outside Mildenhall there's Kenny Hill which frequently gets B'd.

They're usually covered in crap and full of stroppy sheep, so I don't think I'm up for that even if I could think of something!   Actually a local friend does have one, but she has a farm and its usually full of horse shit or rubble...

I'm rather innocent. I always want to change 'Concealed Entrance' signs to 'Congealed Entrance'.

Farthinghoe has been seen to in the past.

In a lay-by, LITTER had been changed to SQITTERS - there was a short, dead-end track by it...

Not rude, but if you just cover the W, you make it a correct statement...

In mind of this thread I was on the A34 the other day and for some time followed a vehicle from, I kid you not, "Anker Van hire". Really? Just too easy...

After 10 years in power, in 1991 the Socialist Party had a poster campaign that showed a hand scattering seed, with the legend "Voici 10 ans qu'on sème" (for 10 years now we've been sowing).  To which the right-wing opposition added small yellow posters reading "la merde".
