Eating can be a bit of a struggle at the end of a ride for me, I certainly wouldn't want full english type stuff.
Soup or stew with chunky bread would be perfect I think.

Industrial liquidiser and gavage funnel on standby then.  ;D

Actually, the logistics of cooking 100+ brekkies are quite considerable. The sloppy option is much easier.

If you decide to go sloppy might as well put rice pudding on the list too.
(Have you joined the WI to avoid riding this 400?)

Hmmm - rice pudding - yes please!

Hmmm....Tiverton to Reading is 200k...I'm planning on coming down with Bianchi Boy, but on basis I don't have to work on the Monday, maybe I'll cycle back & make it a 400+200 instead   I'll wait to see what the weather's like 8)
DJR (Dave Russell) now retired. Carbon Beone parts bin special retired to turbo trainer, Brompton broken, as was I, Whyte Suffolk dismantled and sold. Now have Mason Definition and Orbea M20i.

Do you have a route for this? I am tempted

The most direct way is along the A303 and I do not intend cycling that way.

That'll do...can fine tune nearer the time.   Looks like we might be getting the train down then BB.  In theory it should be a tail wind back to Reading

Just booked the direct train to Taunton at 20:12 and booked bike on. Looking forward to this and see if we manage the 200km home.

East coast. Doesn't matter if you're on their train or not, their website offers bike-booking. There's another one, too, but I can't remember which.

The FGW website gives the option to reserve a bike space on the train when you go through the booking process...the 125's are limited to carrying 6 bikes.

I've just realised that this is London to Brighton bike ride weekend. I wonder whether I'll be met with obstruction if I bring a bike into Sussex (change at Gatwick) on my way home on the Sunday. Having done the 400k and then sat on a train for a couple of hours I've a feeling riding another 40+km won't feel like fun.

When I put the controls into Google Maps walking directions, it comes up short of 400k (and includes a trip across the Severn Bridge to Bulwark and straight back again?). What am I missing? (*waits to be made to feel rather stupid!*)

At a guess, info controls. "Distances are still approximate at this stage as the route has still to be finalised."

It looks to be more or less a there and back again route - hence the Bulwark is the extreme end and you return to home from there.  Even now thought it comes up as about 374 km the way I did it - not far off 400...
It's a reverse Elvis thing.

At the risk of pontificating from a position of almost total ignorance (again), either there'll be an info at Gloucester, which would make the route way over 400k, so I doubt it, or there'll be one to make riders route around inner city Bristol (makes much more sense). I'll shut up now and be patient. :-X

The nice lady at Southern assures me that leaving London after midday will be OK.

The East coast website (and FGW, same site different branding) wouldn't let me book a bike when some of the journey doesn't do bike bookings. Just buying the Paddington-Tiverton section with the booking and then the home - Paddington bit separately was going to cost a reasonable amount more. I went to the local station and have a ticket for the right price, but I'm not at all convinced I have the reservations I wanted as they don't say which train. Should the bike reservation give which date and service, like a seat reservation?

The reservations for the bike state the exact train every time.

I have given up trying to book trains online. I just go to my local station (Bristol Parkway) and they sort it all for me.
I’ve decided I’m not old. I’m 25 .....plus shipping and handling.

East Coast trains allow you to make a cycle reservation ..... even on FGW trains !
Thanks to fboab for the heads up

Therefore myself & my bike are on the 06:36 from Temple Meads - Tiverton on the 15th June   ;D
