Hi, I would love to do a night ride.  I can certainly do the distance during the day!

Is it just a case of turning up on the day?

Speak for yourself! I've checked that the 2210 Derby to Mordor Central is a class 170, (arriving 2300), whereas the earlier 2202 (arriving 2251) is a dangly-space Voyager.  Strangely non-stop, but still takes 49 mins. I smell hints of recovery time, and therefore likelihood of stopping for ten mins or so at Proof House Junction.  (Aka "the Crucible" because, as drivers' folklore has it, you have to get a red before you get a colour.)

Chris - given your earlier posts, it would suggest that we'll meet on Derby station, on our way to this event.  I'll be in a YACF top, with an orange bike.

Quite.  For example, me buying orange cardboard weeks in advance is practically unheard of!
Half term's when the traffic becomes mysteriously less bad for a week.

I'm going to have to be ultra-organised for this as I will be babysitting on Friday and will have to leave home on Thursday with all my cycling kit and bike in/on the car when we head for Maidstone.

Hi Rower 40, meeting on derby station would be great.  i am sorry but being a railway illiterate, were you suggesting the 2202 as the best choice of train?

No, the 2210 is the more bike-friendly.  However, there don't seem to be any advance tickets available on that, so an off-peak single is £15.40 to use that train. On the 2202, there are advance singles available for £7.
I'm happy on either. If you choose the 2202, bring bungees or some other means of securing your bike so that it doesn't swing around while hanging from the ceiling hook.  On the 2210, all you'll need is a means of holding the brake on, as your bike's wheels will be on the floor of the train.
I'll TRY not to bore you too much about trains...

I've just added an Audax-style routesheet to the OP, for those of an analogue inclination.  Plain text for now, but I may get bored and format it for printing later.

Don't be alarmed by the high numbers of instructions dedicated to following the Sustrans route out of Birmingham, it makes more sense than most such routes on the ground (with pretty LEDs to show the way and everything).  I've been living here for nearly 5 years now, and probably won't miss the bridge for the Pebble Mill playing fields in the dark this time.   ;D

Hi, I'm new to here  :)

Please put my name down for the Night Ride. A friend of mine, Terry, who i think is a user of this forum suggested this ride. I need to check that he has put his name down for it too.

Or possibly clockjbex.  There's a hole that looks suspiciously like where you're supposed to insert the scaff pole for winding it up...

She doesn't, not really.  She has a whole Computer Science degree which means employers think she knows how to use M$ Oriface whereas I had to go on a flipping course cos my degree's only "Information Management".

Tech supporting geeks to use M$ is worse than the lusers.

A ten minute (or less) walk. Both stations signposted for direction.

I always get lost in Brum but had no problem walking directly from MSt to NSt at the end of last year's ride.
