Cloverfield. Still 75 minutes too long. Still didn't like any of the characters. Still cheered when the idiot cameraman got eaten.

HPatDH part 2. Snape was always my favourite character - he's so intriguing - and Alan Rickman is just sheer bloody marvellous. I enjoyed it.

Fire In Babylon.

Excellent. I just love Viv Richards. Got to be one of my favourite human beings in the history of the whole world ever.

Shame it ended with the end of the Clive Lloyd era - would love to have seen a bit of Courtney Walsh and Curtly Ambrose.

And it's all a bit poignant considering West Indies cricket has lost its way a bit in recent years.

Himalaya. It's brilliant.  A story of inter-generational rivalry and a struggle against a harsh environment. The photography is stunning; well lit monochrome and no tricks or CGI.

The Adjustment Bureau. Meh. Another PKD by numbers film.

True Grit (the new one)

Really enjoyable but didn't add all that much to the original. I suppose, like most modern Westerns, the overall grimy-ness of the characters may be more realistic and the cinematography is less "Oklahoma".

The, vengeful, young girl steals the show by a mile in the new version.

Not the last film I watched, but my favourite PKD film adaptation (despite not acknowledging its source) is probably The Truman Show.

127 Hours

Amazingly compelling considering the limited resources Danny Boyle had to work with (A man, a rock, a waterbottle, a video-camera and a cheap knife).

Really enjoyed it and it's worth noting that, just like "Touching the void", it's compelling because it's a true story.  It has that wonderful "what would I do?" element.

When PBP gets tough I'll think back to this guy's ordeal and tell myself "things could be worse..carry on pedalling"

Captain America, it was a so-so comic adaption. More excited for the forthcoming Avengers movie. 3D was pretty pointless.

Ah, I didn't realise Philip K Dick had been involved, but that would make sense, as I thought there was an interesting idea at the heart of it, lost in sentimental gush.  Still, it was a diverting two hours.

Cloverfield: WAY better than I expected!

A proper action movie - scary stuff, a wisecracking soldier*, a real sense of chaos, characters that were slightly-less-annoying than the average young americans in an action movie.

It's funny how polarised reviews are - Blair Witch had exactly the same effect. Like BW, if you were never actually scared, it would be rubbish.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2, in 2D (thankfully)

That was quite good.

We've been to see HP&DH 2 this pm - likewise in 2D (gone off 3-D).  Had seen Pt 1 on DVD and wasn't too impressed.

And, given I had no clue what happened prior to seeing the film (it's true -  the one thing I thought I knew turned out to be wrong) - I enjoyed it, as there were some surprises.

Fire in Babylon - an excellent movie, reminding me of all the reasons I love Test cricket, even though it was all from an era before I started watching. If only they'd gone as far as Walsh and Ambrose. I remember Viv Richards, though.

And of course, it was a great tale of the wider forces of liberation at work in the Caribbean during the 1970s. And it came with a kick-ass soundtrack. Great stuff.

Rather good, interesting & suspenseful documentary about virtual relationships.

The Life of Others - a sombre film about life in the DDR.

The main Stasi guy was actually a goodie, the characters were plausible and the scenario was probably all too real in a country so close and only just over 20 years ago. Recommended, but it's a tough watch.

Yes, and so absorbing that even Crusty stayed awake till the end.

Recommended +1.
