Stop Me If You Think That You've Heard This One Before
« on: April 07, 2008, 11:44:39 am »
Taking a short cut through Woolies today with the rest of the Zs (I have a couple of days off) I was appalled to hear Mark Ronson's funked-up version of the Smiths classic.  I don't think I've been so depressed over a cover version since Tin Tin Out and Shelley "can't carry a tune in a bucket" Nelson's version of "Here's Where The Story Ends"  >:(

It worries me, too

I find Mark Ronson horribly smug  - that arch, ironic approach that is consistent with that brief, horrific, craze for "lounge music" some years ago. Everything he touches turns to shmaltz.

It's a cover of a Smiths record is it? I wondered why I didn't like it as much as some of his other stuff.

Yup, all three albums are good 'uns, and I really had (still do have) a bad crush on Harriet.

Ooh  just noticed he's playing a Tele.  Ahead of their time then - all the hip bands are playing Teles now.

Nah, it's a Sundays cover.

In both cases the originals are far superior.  IMO of course  ;)
