We did Dunnockshaw - Padiham - Sabden - Clitheroe and the following day went on to Sedbergh via Waddington Fell, Cross of Greet, High Bentham and Kirkby Lonsdale.

The Cross of Greet section was the hottest of the whole 1000 miles - the tar was melting on the road. It was April 15th.

Just to whet your appetites...

Mrs. Wow and I cycled pushed the tandem up this hill in April 2007. We will be going down it. It's the Nick of Pendle.

That's a very familiar view.  We scattered half of step father in law's ashes up there one freezing, windy November morning around fifteen years ago.

That's just before it gets very steep.  Great road on a superb route.  I hope all involved have great fun :)
Getting there...

I'm very tempted by this, being the old cycling haunts of my youth.  I'd even have a bed to sleep in at my parent's house in Barrowford.  The Nick o'Pendle isn't too bad.  At least it wasn't when I was 15 and could climb it on 42*28! ;)
But, my brother is getting married the weekend after and I think I might be called upon to do wedding prep type things. :(

Hope you can make it, bikenerd.  :) I can't be the only local on the ride!

My Grandpa's scattered there, too.  :D

Doesn't Mrs. Wow come from somewhere in that region? (God help me if I have got that wrong and she is from the other side. ) I would also like to be considered for honorary local status on the grounds that all my aunties, uncles and cousins live in Burnley.

Mrs. Wow is a Tameside lass, although born in Glossop. Technically, she's a southerner*. She was born int Pennines ont west side, though. Her sister lives in Dunnockshaw, only a short broomstick ride from where we will be going. Hameldon Hill, where there is a very obvious set of masts associated with a weather station, is where Mrs. Wow's sis lives. I think it's the next hill down from Pendle, separated by the valley between Accrington and Burnley.

*I may regret saying that when she catches up with this thread. Hello dear!  :-*

Who's going to be coming on a broomstick, then?

Apologies for getting in the way of the smut...

Can you put me down as a pretty much definite for this?

And could you post/PM me details of the 'swish local B&B'?

Wohoo!

I will ask my Mum about this B&B. It's run by Our Marion, who is definitely not a Maid.

I'd love to come since I'm also from that part of the world (Haslingden) but I'm afraid that I'll be in London Village looking at bikes.
I know that's wrong   :hand: but the trains and the hotel are already booked  :'(
Will you make it an annual thing like Dunwich, Exmouth, err Skegness ?

If it goes well (and it is a lovely ride) then I see no reason why not!
