Interesting! Good to see that hedgehogs do set a camera off, that was what I was hoping to see, to prove they were still around.

Are you saving video or stills? I have a concern that video just eats batteries.

I'm saving stills (3 taken at a time) because I find searching through videos an incredible PITA.

Fascinating (worrying about those chaps - is that *in* your garden?).

Where do I lay my hands on one of these machines?

Can I get one that'll just take snaps/video when it detects a creature crossing the field of view? Auto-web-able so it'll take a SIM card or detect a wifi? Battery powered?

My garden is crawling with wildlife and, if the COTS tech is now good enough, I'd love to try snapping it.

Yes, that was in our garden. Just an hour before, I was snapped putting my bike in the shed after doing a DIY 400 with Feanor otp. That was between 3 & 3:30 am (the timestamp on the photie is a bit out).

Jaded, I see this as a Woolly Brontosaurus (taken from a Helicopter of course) roaming the Serengeti.

Is that the view from your garden, Jaded? Very tranquil.

I've been looking into these camera gizmos - and yup, you can get them fully 3G'd or wifi'd. Perfect for keeping tabs on the manor while you're on hols as well as for watching the local wildlife at nght.

It is a garden we borrow and look after. Tranquil is a good word, except tonight, in the wind and rain!

If you want to see a hedgehog, just go camping at Watlington.  The little buggers do the rounds at night, looking for food in everyone's tent porches.  On the second night last month it didn't even bother to roll itself into a ball or scurry off - just looked at me as if to say "yes, this is my field, do you have a problem with that?"
And Darkness and Decay and the Coronavirus held illimitable dominion over all.

The fox seems to visit quite often.

I wonder about putting one in my garden, since I've seen foxes in it quite often, and local squiurrels, but there are a lot of cats (two of them mine ;D), so I wonder how many spurious shots I'll have to ignore!  (Having said that, it wouldn't be totally uninteresting to see how many local cats do wander past).

The Bushnell cameras are quite expensive however.  Are they worth it?  With some effort I could probably hack up a device to do this myself, but being a lazy bugger, there's a lot to be said for a pre-made item!
Actually, it is rocket science.
