It's a bit puzzling, isn't it?  Like T42, I got my angiogram result while I was still on the slab, or at least the broad finding that there was no significant arterial furring and certainly nothing to cause my almost negative ejection fraction.  I'm glad that you have finally got a good result, Simon.  The puzzle is the part that cholesterol might play in this if you haven't got significant furring - I thought that's what high cholesterol led to.  Anyway, good luck with the investigations!

Thanks Peter. The cardiologist’s view expressed in the letter is that whilst the furring is only very slight, won’t impact blood flow, and isn’t a cause of my symptoms, she says it is a good idea to prevent it getting worse. Hence controlling cholesterol levels if they are high.

I asked about what to do to prepare. No need to fast but no meat for 24h. Last time I had it checked I wasn’t given any such advice. My recollection is that it was slightly higher than ideal but not a concern and no action was taken.

That sounds good (except the fasting bit!).  I'm sure you'll be fine.  They seem to change the desired figures for cholesterol from time to time.  Last time I was checked specifically for this, I was told that my reading (like yours) was slightly high but as in your case, they weren't bothered: they said they weren't bothered because of my life-style (sports, diet and being invisible from the side).  I hope and expect that's what you get!

After my TIA, they did the blood reading and decided it was a bit high but left it to me to point out that the ratio was well within the guidelines.  I'm not sure if they were grateful to me or not!

All the best

I found my cholesterol readings from my previous check. 5.09 total and 1.12 HDL. These would not be considered high risk so if it’s unchanged then they won’t put me on statins. I haven’t got the results back yet. My overall risk of heart attack was scored as low (1.3%). <10% is low.

They've crossed off stenosis, so now...?
I've dusted all those old bottles and set them up straight.

Waiting for appointments: MRI to look for subtle structural changes that could cause the ectopic beats, and exercise stress test to confirm it goes away under load.

Will chase cholesterol numbers tomorrow. I've put on weight since last check so it may be higher.

So we have the new cholesterol numbers:

Total 4.2 (down - good)
HDL 1.2 (up - good)
Ratio 3.6 (down - good)

=> No statins required.

Those are really good figures!

MrsC hit double that for total.

Up thread I mentioned an occasional pain in my testicles. The GP checked for twisting but found nothing. I am still getting the random episodes of pain which max at about 8/10 intensity. Today I went for an ultrasound scan but again all looks good. Chatting to the guy doing the scan offered no suggestions although he did mention that these things can be caused by say a back problem.

Ouch I know what you feel. I endured the fun 4 times, the first one was like a good kick to the privates. The second bout of pain was when I went to the doctor. I managed to get to the waiting room on the second floor, half bent over, pain that had at this point lasted 20min, managed to sit down in the waiting room. Got called in right away as the nurse could see this wasn't good. Stood up and just like pain arrives when you get a direct hit to the jewels it went away, it was only the fear of it returning that kept me from jumping for joy. The quack looked at me and said I'm booking you in for an emergency op. The next day, a Wednesday, I had a booking for the following Monday to go under the knife.

That Wednesday was when the real fun happen, who am I kidding, agony, hell, screaming, fainting, blood draining, puking pain hit me twice.

If it wasn't for a school mate I would had headbutted the table. I stood up and boys, cross you legs now, cause if you ever had a size 10 hit you right there after the wee friends have dropped and you lost your breath for a few moment and some crying later you were up walking again. This was nothing compared to give me a direct kick with steel caps any time. I only got half way up and the I just buckled over. A few minutes later I managed to wake up, about a 20min later I was ok to get a lift by a teacher home. And some time later that evening after a lot of care from my mum I could stand upright without fainting.

Two days later, now Friday, I experienced the joy again, lucky in the same class right next to a sofa and we had just had a first aid session so the whole class. No head butting, soft landing and out long enough so I didn't have to clean up my spilled lunch, no not from lunch box but belly. Got taken care of the first aid teacher and class mates, called the doctor, who called the hospital. Who said they couldn't get me in earlier so be just go home and stay there until time to go to hospital. Sometime Saturday I could move around and touch down there with out being tender and didn't feel crap or scared of moving.

For some silly reason I had to have the op twice, one for each ball. In one way I can understand because the dangling bits was delicate for a while after and I couldn't lift anything heavy for 3 weeks. But I could have lived without the porn star look twice, feck me it itches when it grows back and it isn't a place on a normal day you can just grab and scratch without pre-planning. And now you got the added bonus of a healing scar to avoid and the itch of that to deal with.

This was about 30 years ago so I'm sure the surgeon got better skills now. And it's not the old let's cut it up nice and wide so we can see what is going on down there.

I shouldn't laugh at your predicament Woolly, but you write your experience so vividly!
