'Good' table manners mainly relate to the ulnar nerve function (Interosseous muscles)
Power grip uses different muscles and nerves.

Ah yes, able-handed people who lecture me on how I hold my cutlery... The sea has plenty of space for them. Thankfully I'm an adult now and I spend time with people who take me as I come, even on a bad day where I choose food that can be eaten with hands and no cutlery at all.

Ho hum. Now I'm noticing increasing overall weakness, more so in legs and tiredness / dizziness  ???

Whatever next... Trying to avoid googling the symptoms though...

Anyhoo, off work sick. Phoned GP am, got a telephone consultation. GP spoke to consultant and has seen MRI scan results.  Phone call back this afternoon from GP to explain the findings. Slight bulging of discs at C5/C6 level, which are putting pressure on nerves, which explains the symptoms in my right arm.  He isn't so happy however about the symptoms of weakness in my right leg. So an appointment has been made for this afternoon at 3pm.  ???

Well, after seeing the GP, I'm now in Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, having a battery of tests done... So far tonight blood tests, chest x-ray and CT scan, as well as test of reflexes and limb strength.

Talk of MRI scan of head tomorrow.

Dr unsure, but possibly TIA or stroke. MS was also mentioned as a possibility.  ???

Crikey - I was expecting the "proceed directly to hospital, do not pass go" bit, but still thinking spine vs nerves.

Fingers crossed!

Brian, sorry to hear they did send you directly to hospital. I hope you've got all you need including phone electrons and all that.

I hope you get more information ASAP and it's the least-worst of the options and they can do something to treat you effectively.

Thinking of you.

T, this is a bit of a long read, but it might help:-

https://yacf.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=113146.0

It was a real shock to me to find (a year ago) that I had AF - because I had no strange feelings at all.  It was only the most transient of TIAs which set me on the investigative path.  I now occasionally feel "edgy" in the chestal area but I think that is anxiety, of which I have plenty for unrelated reasons.  I can tell when I am fibrillating only on the occasions that my BP monitor checks coincide with the "spasms" and then it's only the figures that suggest it.  I think you are already on some medication, aren't you?  If not, and you suspect AF, Depeche-toi au medecin sofort, as they might say in Alsace.  A fairly normal life is possible with AF (cf Eddy Merckx) but I'm really grateful to have found out how ill I am and getting treatment for it.  PM me if you want to talk.

PS  I can very occasionally feel my heart going bonkers through the wall of my chest, if I'm lying on my side, but there is no other symptom.  I solve this by lying on the other side!

All the best,

Peter

PPS  More good luck to you Brian!

Thanks, Peter.  I'm already on bog standard T2 diab/cardiovascular meds, i.e. metformin, clopidogrel (platelet population limiter) & pravastatin, none of which [should] have a direct effect on rhythm.  Mostly I notice my heart wambling (technical term) after a ride where I've pushed harder than I ought to, and what I get then falls into two categories: (1) regular atrial+ventricular beat pairs at around 1/sec with the odd "missed" beat or (2) regular ventricular beats with the odd "fizzing" sensation where the atrial beat ought to be.  However, I've been noticing this for ~20 years with no obvious TIAs or ill-effects.

I suspect (2) to be AF, and while I'm looking for corroboration I'm also wondering if there's anything harmless that could cause it. I'm due to see my cardiologist in late September. He's a great fan of beta blockers when there's a whiff of anything untoward, however trivial. I am not.

I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

Hopefully I'll get MRI scan today. Meanwhile I seem to be getting institutionalised, I've only been in hospital since Thursday evening!  ???

Hospitals do that to you, sorry to hear you haven't had scan and therefore answers yet. I forgot about the days of waiting that aren't uncommon. Fingers crossed!

MRI scan done after lunch. No signs of MS in the brain scan. So discharged home today with a 2wk sick note, and I'm getting referred to neurology and physio outpatients. ???
