Actually, would anyone object to moving this forward a week? As always just after I choose a date it clashes with something else.

I'm trying to figure out why I've gone off overnight rides. Suspect it is something to do with the impossibility of either banking or catching up on sleep afterwards.

Just a reminder that train tickets should be released in the next few days (up to the 17th as of this morning). The train between Newcastle and Carlisle is not very big and you can't pre-book your bike on them, so just be a little wary of relying on the last train over.

Also if anyone fancies making this a longer ride, I'm thinking of riding up round the coast during the day on Friday from near St Bees Head, which would add another (mainly flat) 100km with some lovely views out into the Irish Sea and the Solway. If anyone fancies joining me they would be very welcome. (Oh, and Tynemouth would only be another 15km at the end to make it an entire coast-2-coast :demon:) :)

Leaving from Egremont lunch time to early afternoon. Passing Whitehaven, Workington and Flimby stations en-route (all of which are on the coast). Aim to be in Carlisle about 7pm which should give a few hours in the pub before the night ride :)

OT - Any news on the Manchester FNRttC? :)

It's on 1st August and the (not) half-way stop is a 24hr McDonalds.
The route will, subject to dellzeqq's approval, take us higher into the hills but the overall climbing will be the same or even less since we won't be going up-down, up-down ........... quite as much.
We've tentatively planned to do a reccy in July but I don't want to push dz on dates or publicity since he's got a lot on.
I'll put the info on here as soon as I can.

Sounds good, count me in.
I'm away from the UK at the moment and won't be back until the end of August so this will be a great way of building up my riding again after being off the bike for a little while.

I have train tickets

19th Sept depart Blythe Bridge 1821 change at Crewe(arrive1901 depart 2009) arrive Carlisle 2200

20th Sept depart Carlisle 1807 change at Crewe (arrive 1959 depart 2045) arrive Blythe Bridge 2131

at £19 return it's almost like stealing a ride in terms of vfm.

I'll pay the walk on fare at Newcastle to get back to Carlisle.

both journies with bike reservations, naturally, & seat reservations in the same carriage as the bike racks.

I've just followed the route using the OP link & streetview.

It would be good to do it in daylight some other time to appreciate the views & scenery. It looks like super touring country

It sticks mainly to the Hadrian's cycle way with some slightly more major road substitutes you can get away with at that time of night. It is indeed lovely touring country :)

I'm currently in the daft position where I can now drive, but no chance of cycling for a while yet :(

I'm still hoping to be riding and leading this, but it would be nice to have a back up plan with another cat-herder or two if I can't. Any volunteers? ;D

The flip side is that if I can't cycle, there's more scope for adding a coffee/tea stop somewhere like the top of Greenhead and to have a support vehicle :)

Having purchased a lift from Mr.Branson I'm committed to riding & don't mind helping to get other riders lost ;)
