To be fair, it might not be the worst thing to wear.

Who's the current holder?  I lost track ... was it OD?

Whoever it is gets to choose, either on the basis of, or by completely ignoring, nominations received via direct message.

I have a nomination (or two!) in mind already, just waiting fro confirmation where they should go.

It is indeed OD who has the honour of being the current MEMWNS-of-the-Year so nominations for this year's member to be equally honoured need to be sent in a brown paper envelope or PM to him to be entirely ignored only for OD to chuck the suitably augmented trophy at some unsuspecting passer by in a panic on the night

Greetings, I been thinking ...

I was considering adopting some sort of theme but then wondered if this added unnecessary complexity when our requirements were actually quite simple; those being to drink beer, eat food, ride our bikes and above all have a laugh.

Secondly, I wondered if we should meet up at 10am ish at Witham's Wetherspoons.  I appreciate one might think that for some of us the world appears to revolve round Witham but the idea has some merit.  Witham is relatively easy to get to for all of us and is easy to reach by train.   'spoons serve a cheap but acceptable breakfast and you can even have BEER if you want  There is also lots of reasonably secure bike parking in the garden at the back.  If anyone wants to arrive by car we can suggest places to park.

So, that's as far as I have got on the planning front.  Thoughts so far?

One last point.  Please can you start sending me your nominations for the Mid-Essex Mid-Week Nocturnal Series annual award.

This was an early post, its nice to think that you wake up thinking about us though.

Witham start is fine by me, can we ride for a couple of hours from there though to save the disappointment of repeated pubs not being open in the morning like last year.

Perhaps land at The Compasses by dark?

Exactly my thinking. Thoughts on a pub for lunch?  The Axe and Compasses at Aythorpe Roding has been mentioned in the past.

So where do you see the main meal happening, Compasses early evening or elsewhere at lunchish.

I was thinking about a decent feed at lunchtime (2ish?) then back to the Compasses at LG for evening drinkies and more food.

How does this sound?

Sounds good.

If we aren't following a theme, will our route be plotting a rude pictogram on strava?

Ah! It's grim here. But you can still do a route in the shape of a cock!

Your attention please ...

I need to start booking stuff so who is planning on attending?  Please make your intentions known.

The plan thus far:

Date: Saturday 10th January, spilling over into Sunday 11th if you want
Start time: 1000 hrs for the eating of breakfast plus a cheeky pint  ;D
Start venue: Battesford Court (Wetherspoons), 100 Newland Street, Witham, Essex, CM8 1AH (bike parking in rear garden)
Lunch: about 1400 hrs (ish)
Lunch location: TBC.  Oaky is working on a route shaped like a cock
Evening location: The Compasses Inn, Littley Green, Essex, CM3 1BU

Once at The Compasses we can eat more food and drink some beer.  I will ask Joss (genial (sometimes) landlord) if we can camp in the garden like last year.

Notes:
- Fancy dress (human and bike) is encouraged but not obligatory
- Camping is not obligatory
- Feel free to dip in and out of the event, you don't have to take part in the whole thing if pushed for time

There will be more details to follow.

So, can you make it?  Do you have any questions?

I would very much like to do the lot, camping excepted. Having said that, it is more likely that I will join the extravaganza at 10 am and then finish after lunch. I don't yet know what Mrs. Wow and Dez are intending. I will remind them of the existence of this thread.
