Brooklands on Sunday morning

Does anybody fancy a ride down to Brooklands on Sunday morning?

Cycle related attractions on the day are:
VETERAN CYCLE RACEDAY
Sunday 28th September
A fantastic morning of veteran and other pedal power
at the Museum and on the MBWorld circuits. Including
races for PENNY-FARTHINGS, SOLID-TYRE BICYCLES,
SINCLAIR C-5s;
PLUS: see your local Postie race his mates on their
famous red-and-white machines

Also, there is the Raleigh bicycle collection there which is worth a visit.

I've driven a Sinclair C-5 down the Tarka Trail in Barnstaple. It was much fun!  :D

From Putney Bridge it would be about 17 miles.

Here's a link

How lumpy is the route?  I might take the Carlton (fixie).

It can be pretty much lump free - I've done both the lump and smooth routes on fixed.

The smooth route is across the middle of Richmond Park, down to Teddington, Bushey Park, along the river, cross over at Walton Bridge, a right turn and along the other side of the river, across to Weybridge and that's almost it.

This sounds good. What time from Putney Bridge?

Well....

According to the link, the cycling starts at 9, but the museum opens at 10 - I rang them to clarify and I'm still none the wiser!

So, assuming that it does start at 9, that would mean leaving Putney Bridge at about 7:45. On a Sunday morning. Ouch.

Is your old man not driving?!

I'd love to go to this, but it all depends on my knee...

My old man hasn't mentioned it, perhaps he doesn't know, which is odd with him being a VCC member and Raleigh enthusiast and all. I'll ask him tonight. He probably would drive, especially if there was a jumble! I'd like to ride but couldn't get to Putney Bridge for 07:45. First train from Chelmsford gets to Liverpool Street at 07:42 on a Sunday.

I notice there is a friendly train service from Waterloo to Weybridge (Weybridge station being 1 mile from Brooklands). That would be easy  :P

I reckon my knee could handle L'Street to W'Loo and Weybridge to Brooklands, but not much more at the moment...

We're in negotiations as to which bike(s) we are riding, so I guess there's a high chance of an early start sunday morning for us ;D

Oh.  Now I have a dilemma.  Should I ride my fixie or my Woodrup?

Or go with the casting vote in the household and come by tandem? ;D

Forgive my ignorance, Zipperhead, but is it a cycling circuit one can, well, cycle around?

Well, the original circuit is now incomplete (and the surface is pretty poor) and if it were complete it would be a bit on the big side for a cycle race at 4.2k long. But, I've cycled (and driven) on some of the remaining bits of the circuit.

I think I'll join you for this one if I may, weather pending.

Putney Bridge at 0745?

The forecast for Sunday is still good, how about meeting on the NE corner of the bridge, about where Gonville Street meets Putney Bridge Approach. Outside the hotel there's plenty of space.

I'm sure we can pick up coffee supplies on the way.

Perfect - see you there.

Is there a jumble, can't see it mentioned on the site?
