Windows 10 - free upgrade from Win 7, 8 and 8.1?

I have heard that this is gonna happen for the first year only.   Anybody know anything about this and if it would be worth doing?

Yes its true. As to whether it's worth doing that will depend on how good Windows 10 is and if it supports the applications and peripherals you have.
Its only being released for testing this month with full release not until the autumn. I would wait a few months after release to get a balanced view on it.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

yep, polar bear I became aware of this yesterday after my 8.1 questiions.

To save me hunting for references can you tell me what you are currently running?

I will then follow your progress with interest.

Ah, excellent.   Worth monitoring.

I have an intel i5 quad core Acer laptop with 8gb ram running Win 7 Home Premium and mllePB a similarly specced Quietpc built tower running Win 7 Home Premium too.
