The Shark 200
« on: February 25, 2016, 06:54:44 am »
There didn't appear to be a thread so I thought I'd start one.

I entered, then it looked like I wouldn't be able to make it, but I'm okay now. Why's it called The Shark by the way?

I'm guessing it's the profile of the ride - a lot of 'fins'???

After posting my question here I found an email from Ivan the organiser so asked him. He said the reasoning behind the name would become apparent on the day - gulp  :-\

At a wedding that day sadly.  Looks a great ride.
Right! What's next?

Ooooh. That sounds like a daft idea.  I am in!

I've just entered and I'm really looking forward to this ride. A river, the sea, spectacular countryside and a hilly challenge, fantastic.

I did exactly this much climbing last weekend... spread over two hilly rides on two days and that was painful enough

Crikey, I might be doing hill repeats most of next week in preparation.

I did the Around Weald Expedition permanent ride on Good Friday. That was a 215km ride following much of the same terrain and a similar amount of climbing to the Shark. I was slower than I would normally take for this distance, but the stunning scenery and fabulously quiet roads for much of the day made it a real joy. I'm looking forward to riding in the same area again.

Thanks Ivan,  I am sort of looking forward to this now, some of the hills on the second part I have been down.... they'll be interesting in the other direction!  :o

Christ, if Ivan needs recovery time the rest of us are in for some pain :-)

I shall keep an eye out for you JJ - just one eye, so the other eye isn't blinded by the extreme levels of hi-vis  ;D

Route sheet and gpx downloaded thanks!

looks like a lot of my fave GdS 200 Meridian Hills vs some of AWE with some nice stuff near the coast; looking forward to it (apart from Hogtrough Hill)

I've given up on Hogtrough Hill now and just walk it from the off, after getting a PB on Strava doing this - over a minute faster than riding up!

Hogtrough looks a bit like Titsey Hill from its profile?
