Noisy fan on MacBook Air
« on: 02 June, 2022, 08:51:14 am »
As above. My MacBook Air is a couple of years old, the last model they made before those with an M1 processor so it has a fan.
Recently the fan has made itself known by being noisy. The environment the MacBook is used in is almost exclusively in my bed, so it is fluff central. I'm sure it would benefit from the effects of a vacuum cleaner, but where are the vents? There don't appear to be any. Are they incorporated into the speaker grilles either side of the keyboard?

Sounds like it needs a good clean. My old (2009! MacBook) was sounding like a leaf blower two or three years ago. Cracked it open, defluffed the fan, and (relative) quiet restored. iFixit guide was clear and accurate on how to do it. If this is your Air model, https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Air+13-Inch+Early+2020+Fan+Replacement/142675 might be of help- steps one and two only, I hasten to add, you don't need to remove anything.
