Avocados... and other trees.
« on: 17 August, 2020, 01:07:05 pm »
Have some avocado plants grown from pips.  Currently have three, the largest is ~38cm tall, and the largest leaf is 33cm!  The chance of them flowering is slim, & apparently one needs more than one plant for them to fruit, as though flowers are 'M&F' - not in sync.  The dwarf early fruiting varieties don't seem to be easily available in Uk.

Anyone else avoing a go?

I also have some baobab seeds one month into trying to germinate.  When I was growing up in Africa, we used to crack open the pods, and chew the acidic seed coating off...

Avocados - no more tricks with toothpicks, I plant mine straight in the ground.  Never persisted with them long enough, I expect they would die in winter.
