\o/ free t-shirt
My younger brother (who has already gone past 5 million metres) said he had to wait six weeks for his t-shirt.
T-shirt and 1-million-metre pin are on their way to me.

Enough of us putting in the metres to be worth doing the Virtual Team Challenge?

That's me done for the year, I managed to row past Leeds with a 204909m in my advent row and 253764m for the Holiday Challenge. Ended the year with a half marathon in 1h40m, so there's room for pudding.

Joining in the winter "fun" by doing 10000m every day in Jan, it's something to do :)

Phew, the calf muscle didn't complain. I gave it a try, nice and gentle row. The hardest part was not to pass 5000m and push harder.

It's now on ice and if I don't get any complaints from it. I think I still partake in a row a day for Jan, albeit slow and steady.

Have signed up for the Haul in January - at least 15 hours.  Did an hour this morning and started to fatigue badly after 50 minutes.  Am out of practice at long rowing sessions.

Just crunched some numbers.

If I row 500m extra every day for the rest of this month, I would clock up 2 million!!

I'm pretty chuffed about that.

I wasn't even thinking I would get past a million. When I started back in March last year.

I used to row regularly (but not as profically as some of you lot reading the thread  :o :o) as part of getting fit for cycling but let it fall away in recent years.  In my defence, Ive not been helped by a switch to WFH March 2020 and gym being closed (my only access to rowing).

I started up again just before Christmas, setting myself an objective to build up gradually from 500m (2 mins) to 5km (20 mins) stepping up by 250m each time but only proceeding to the next distance if my average speed is around 2.00 / 500m (I get to decide the definition of "around"  :demon:).

I've just ticked off 1km in 4.04.

Boy its difficult!  Probably stating the obvious to you seasoned rowers but it really does reward technique over effort much more than the cycling equivalent.

Yes.
I row my running avatar on zwift and do running workouts. It seems that when rowing the difference between 'piece of piss I can do this all day' and 'oOMG killmenow I can't breathe' is much smaller than for runners.

I can't do 2 minute splits for more than, oo, 1 minute?

I've noticed that.  My rowing time for a specific distance (5000m, 10000m etc) is much closer (proportionately) to the world record than it is for cycling (e.g. 100 mile TT) or for running (10k, marathon).   But I would rate myself as a cyclist first, the other two are just for 'fun'.  Or perhaps I've just missed out on my best sport (unlikely).  So I'd come to the same conclusion - that a proportional improvement on an Ergo is much harder.

Much better today.  Half marathon done in very even splits.  Secret is very loud very heavy music that blots out everything else.  Can't do that in my early morning sessions for obvious reasons, but today started mid-afternoon as it was too driech outside to consider anything else.

Crunched some numbers today:

If I row 9243.3m every day for the rest of the month, I will get to my target of 300000m in a month.
If I row 10408.3m every day for the rest of the month, I will get to 2 million metres rowed by the end of the month.
If I row 8134.9m every day for the rest of the season, I will get to 2.5 million meters rowed in a season.

The two first targets should be easy to do. The last one might not be possible, life got plans away from the rower. But if I crank some extra metres in this month and put in a few half marathons before season end. I'm sure I can make up for the none rowing days.

Which is blowing my mind, I never expected that I would enjoy this much and be able to clock in this amount of metres.

Missed out on rowing due to other commitments last two days so did 90 minutes straight today to get back on track for the haul.  Pleased that every 5000m split was within a 6 second span, so have found my forever pace.
