Mark is such a gentleman, offering Arabella the top bunk.

Brilliant, quite brilliant!
The best!

They're great - really tell the story!

But I liked the way home better.
Pictures of the way to Paris

Complete tracklogs of the PBP holiday. The way out is via Belgium, back via the Mosel/Rhine.
Forgive me Father, for I have sinned. It has been too many days since I have ridden through the night with a brevet card in my pocket...

I think the best set I've viewed so far. I think the place where Arabella and Marc are eating soup is the place I stopped in Illifaut in 2007. Deans friend is Steve B, sometimes referred to as Stevie Wonder.

Great photo-story, Els.

Mine were a bit erratic on the main event. I took the best ones on the trip down from Dieppe!

And here on the way to Sisehun, I ask Rapha James whether they'll be able to Tippex(R) me out for the catalogue (he is worried about continuity -- of all the things to concern a rider on PBP!): http://www.540network.com/ww/00707/content/PBP_2011_4472_large.html

Mal that's timeless, only spoilt by the smile!  I could easily imagine you round the corner in the blacksmith's hammering your forks a la Eugene!

Just before it started properly raining :)

Was I hallucinating or were you, me and John Spooner talking to Simon Topping from 1980's "Madchester" band "A Certain Ratio" in a Cafe on the way back to Paris?

It seemed a strange conversation looking back..

Me "You look very familiar
Him "How old are you?"
Me "49"
Him "Me too"
Me "Where are you from?"
Him "Manchester, I lived on Hillgate, Stockport"
Me "Me too"

I'm beginning to think I was talking to a mirror (stranger things happened on my PBP)

MV, you were slumped back in your chair, "catching flies" (never seen you look so knackered) but I think you awoke.

Ah, that's who he was.  I thought he was a mate of yours, didn't realise you'd just met him

The conversation later became very odd; he was apparently "well-in" with the cafe proprietor, but was saying all sorts of stuff about France being a third-world country, which was obviously irritating Monsieur.

That was on that interminable section after Villaines, in the middle of the night, after we'd made MattC entertainments officer, but he'd ridden off and left us.

I was impressed by mattc's resolve. He'd obviously learned his lessons from 2007.

I think MV's mistake may have been ordering a mug of Horlicks and choosing a comfy chair.

It all took place at the café Au Bon Coin at Fresnay-sur-Sarthe. Not the first time I've been in there.
