As said ^, I’m pretty sure your bike will accommodate 700c wheels and sets of 700 disc wheels with QR are plenty full s/h, and quite cheap. If you want to try 700, I have a spare set , with discs, and probably some tyres, you could borrow to try it out. If you are getting N+1, it’s not worth spending a lot on this bike. I don’t use them any more. Anyway, about to get on ferry, for Belgium.

After finishing some nasal topiary I put my little electric trimmer back on the shelf.  From where it promptly made a suicidal leap for freedom....    I picked up the 2 pieces (the head had come off) and was able to click them back together & it still worked.    I then noticed that during its descent it had hit my pottery shaving bowl* & taken a chunk out of the base.  I'm going to have to find the superglue....

Finally I looked down & noticed that there was quite a lot of red stuff leaking from my left big toe....  one of the falling items with a sharp edge must have landed on it...

Just go by the manufacturer’s claimed diameter. Most of them are there or thereabouts and close enough for tyre pressure calculating purposes.

There is nothing wrong with just going by feel and experimenting in an up-a-bit, down-a-bit fashion, I am sure the majority of the world’s bike tyres are done this way, but if you want to get into it, this page has a calculator way down under a load of bumpf that is quite useful.

Gives you an idea. You may find you don’t need such a big front-back difference as you have mentioned elsewhere.

A couple of streets here have been flooded, but not catastrophically. It would have been worse if they hadn't fixed up the stream. Much worse elsewhere: one village to the west of us has 1m20 of water in the main street, and several others I often ride through are flooded.

ETA Took a toddle to next village this morning, where not a few houses have been pumping out their cellars, as has the poshest restaurant in the area.  Fortunately, foie gras entier usually comes in a tin. #yourewelcome

Further and Faster / Tyre pressures
« Last post by Delidroid on Today at 08:20:35 am »
Hello There.
I'm sure that everyone of us who take cycling seriously agonise over what tyre pressure should we be using.
Trial and error just adds to the misery. I have an idea but I don't know what or how to handle the data I'm about to explain.

my bike is shod with WTB Thickslick Tyres at the moment. I'm not a great fan of fat skinheads but they're perfect for my experiment.

My idea is simple. Find a nice flat paving slab, wet it and brush off the surface water and ride my bike across it.
Now here's where I need help.

1. Do I measure the width of the tyre and the wet patch and calculate the ratio?
2. Do I measure the width of the tyre and paint a water stripe on the slab the same size which will reveal a contact patch along the tyre as well as across.
3. Do I shut up, go back to bed and dream about Kittens or something?

Out of interest Delidroid, what pressure do you run the 650b Zeppelins at?
Hello.
my original tyre pressures were 45 and 55 psi for the first ride. Riding on the canal towpath nearly knocked my teeth out.
On the second ride I used 35 and 45 psi. Next time I'm going to use the tyres from my old bike which are Schwalbe Land cruiser plus. I run them at 35 and 45 psi.
I have never managed to work out the perfect pressure
they're big 50 mm wide and heavy but have a good tread pattern.

The WTB thickslick tyres live in the back of the shed because I don't really trust them.
I bought them because they were in a sale at £8 each and I thought I could ride at 50 MPH on the flat.
I've never used them in the wet. You suggested I fit narrower tyres and I have been looking for some but most ones in 650B (or 27.5") are MTB, gravel design and
are big volume. I might start a separate thread about tyre pressures. (I bet nobody has ever done that topic before).

Paid for an item on Sunday.  Seller said he'd post Monday.  He didn't actually post until late Tuesday, taking it to the post office after Parcelfarce's collection time.  So it was collected on Wednesday, Parcelfarce 48.  It wasn't delivered yesterday and spent the whole day in Basingstoke depot*.  It looks as if they might try to deliver today, when I will be out.

*there used to be a depot 3 miles away, so collection was easy, but they closed it years ago
