Pulp last night at Hyde Park.
Supports were not that great (though I missed Metronomy and The Horrors) and Grace Jones really needs to put it away now - a 63 year old in a leotard pole-dancing isn't a brilliant spectacle! Though she does have a good back catalogue to work with.
Little Unwind tent was very good - especially Cut Copy.
The main event - Pulp. I will admit, I am not the biggest fan ever - however, Cass is - so it was more for her. I've seen them live a few times (I lived in Sheffield in the 90s, it was hard not to!).
Jarvis Cocker is one of those men that straight men adore/worship in a very strange way (Morrissey being another) - seeing pissed up lads screaming 'Jarvis, Jarvis, we love you' etc. was amusing.
He certainly still has that stage presence - all the climbing about, hip wiggling and little poses are still there.
Overall, the band didn't really look like they were having fun (I can't remember whether they ever did!) - but Jarvis seemed to be enjoying it.
Started with Do You Remember The First Time and then, basically, didn't put a foot wrong - all the classic stuff, Disco 2000, Babies, Sorted for Es and Wizz etc. - This Is Hardcore was excellent. Encore was Common People (naturally) with lots of confetti and stuff - was great.
Sound was pretty awful (even for these sort of outdoor events) - lights were all very nice.
Met with whole crowds of Sheffield mates (most of whom do now live in London though!) - it was all good.
Almost made me feel young again!
