I have a saw file, but it is a bit old and in one of those 'guides' that never has the correct angles.

So I've bought two saw files from Germany. According to tool maker Dave Budd, they are the dogs.

Next, several enjoyable hours filing and re-setting a couple of saws.

So what about that tool that you bought but then forgot?

A thread such as this somewhere persuaded me that a VAR chainring-bolt tool would be a good idea, and probably highlighted one at a really good price. I found it this week in the back of a cupboard :-[

Looks a really nice tool. Really should use it next time I have some rings to change ::-) In the meantime, here it is - pen for scale:
