When did people start spelling it like that - and why, FFS? In my copy of The Bona Book of Julian and Sandy, Took and Feldman spell it Palare. The scripts for RTH had it as Palare. There were articles in GT in the 80s about Palare. And it's related to the showman's (gypsy) language of Parlyare, from the French Parler and the Italian Parlare.
What has it got to do with Scott, Amundsen and Peary?
