What are the pros and cons of these designs?

A

B

C

A seems to be the biggest and heaviest at 1.2kg, but it's also the cheapest at £8.99, the highest power and most stable.

I know nothing of the other designs.

Think of it as a power-to weight ratio, Sam.

A is powerful, but weighs a tonne.  Sort of like an American V8 truck.

C is light, but not very powerful.  Sort of like a 2CV.

B is light and almost as powerful as A.  Certainly more so than C.

If you're going camping and carrying your gear by bike, you want a light stove.  Some can be shockingly light, but as is the way with all gear, fewer grams cost more squids...

For out of the back of a car camping get A. It's stable incredibly easy to light and the pan doesn't fall off it. Bad points gets through gas canisters quite quickly. I have too of them for use with the big family tent and when going camping with all the extras (tables chairs etc).
The other cookers are more expensive but smaller and more suited to back packing / cycling camping.

Auntry C beat me to it
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

con: none of the above has a wind shield. Believe me, you will need one.

I would go for B on the proviso that you get some kind of folding screen to go with it. It's more stable looking and being from a decent manufacturer will last a long time.

Is 90m of full blast considered bad efficiency?

Does the cartridge for B need sealing? Ir is it a case of once it's attached. use it up? How long do they last and what are they like with a pan full of pasta/beans on top?

A really doesn't need much of a wind shield as the burner is recessed into the housing. You would only be using it on a campsite anyway so if its really windy you can make a wind shield out of a coat over the back of a chair or use a beach wind shield (you did pack one in your car didn't you ?)

This is another option. Robust and reliable and runs on unleaded. Very quick to heat stuff up and is fun to play with.

I have one of those for motorcycle camping on account of the fact that as long as you've got a bit of tube and don't mind the taste of petrol, fuel's easy to carry.

Weighs a metric fuckton though  :(

I use a Campingaz version of (B).

Cannisters are about £2.50, click-fit and click-remove.  They last for days of Brewing up and generally available at every camping shop (even Tescos I notice).

The tripod stove is very stable on any ground and doesn't result in having a pan of boiling water perched on a burner perched on a cannister perched on soft grass.  It also has Piezo ignition.

My choice is (B)

I think Charlotte's Coke Can thing is actually a Crack-Pipe/Bong.

What sort of thick foil did you use to make the windbreak, Charlotte?

My mini-Trangia could do with something like that.
