Really extraordinary,,,congratulations to him....quite remarkable achievement.....the consistency to keep plugging away day after day....
when you've done a few shorter rides, you get an idea of what this must be like, although I can only imagine....and I've found the whole thing really fascinating......
8 days, 23hrs and 59s.... :)
i can smell the beer from here...
meanwhile further back....CP2 is due to close tonight [I think]...so it's a very different kind of race for them, and one I'm much more familiar with.

It's bonkers. He was on his bike for 19.5 hours a day, with an average distance of 450 km a day.

So.....after the race proper has finished [say first X or so?], it then becomes a race against the clock for the majority to finish within the time [16 days or whatever that is]....and this is where the majority of riders will find themselves. So you need to be averaging roughly say 11km per hour and above, and generally speaking average speed drops the longer the race goes on [see the top riders!], so the question must start to loom large, how long do riders keep going once they start to fall behind that key level knowing they'll be out of time and the final control [or just the next control for that matter] will have closed and everybody could well have packed and gone home? Obviously it varies depending on how you feel about it all, and what you want to achieve. The scale is on another level compared to anything I've ever done, and you're so far from home, I'm trying to imagine how you might look at that.....it's like - you start an event....then, unfortunately find yourself out of time half way round.....and in the middle of nowhere.....and a long way from home! So do riders have to scratch? Of course not. Carry right on down to Istanbul and make a holiday of it if you want too. But the event's finished as such, and I can't imagine some of those parcours feel like a bunch of laughs when you're not going to get validated. I guess the answer is - you work it out as you go along.

The song 'Stranded' by Roxy Music comes to mind :-)

Strikes me this is a teethgrinder kind of a ride. Has he done it?

Well if you make it by the cut off time for each control and the finish you are awarded a place in the general classification and are classed as a finisher.

If you miss any check point closing time, or finish over time, but still finish. Then you are classed as a finisher. Being a TCR finisher is still an amazing achievement.

There have been a couple who made it to Turkey (10th & 11th at last CP) and then had to scratch. That must be gutting.

After yesterday's CP4 cut-off there are only 131 out of the original 284 Solo riders still within the time limits.  There are also 7 of the original 21 Pairs.

There are 284 stories within the single story and no more extraordinary than Victor Bosoni [232]. As already mentioned up thread, he rode the Alps not once but three times to retrieve a forgotten passport. He arrived at the finish after the extra 550km in the top 30. Inspiration on turbo or what.

Anna Linden made the Canakkale control with 18 mins to spare. Ferry jeopardy as well as she took one closest to control. Perfect pacing…

“ After 12 days 14 hours and 56 minutes Mark Kowalski (243) dropped to his knee and proposed to his girlfriend Myrna at the Finish Line. A zip-tie ring, an elated Mark, and a very memorable way to commemorate his second TCR.  ”

Congrats Mark.

Big shout out to Norman Lomax, 229, last dot standing, who rolled over the finish line yesterday after 26 days.
I'd very much like to see an account of his ride.
He was the oldest rider to complete the event, 67.
Chapeau.

I’ve been watching his dot with fascination I did not realise he was that age! Stunning achievement.

I am also currently sitting at the top of the Vrsic Pass (inspired by the route) and I can say the climb was absolutely brutal. The view is stunning though.
