Time we had a thread for horse photos! These are a few dressage photos from a show today:

There were some beautiful horses and very talented riders.
Anyone know what sort of horse that last one is?

I think it may be a Friesian.

I was going to say it looks very like Carrie-Ann, the Dales cross Friesian mare I used to ride. Beautiful photos, Daniel.

This is No;2 son & harry again as an extra in Merlin, he's the one on the lead riders left and the bloke with the flag is our farrier
filmed near Ebbw Vale

and this is Gremlin, bought from Llanybydda horse market, which has a bit of a reputation, but if you know what your looking at you can get a bargain, this chap had come straight out of the field completely untouched with 15 of his mates and straight on the lorry, it took 6 of us over an hour to separate him from his mates and get a head collar on him, the last thing I heard was a big bloke 6' tall & 6' wide & about 18 stone shout don't f****ing let go now as I was dragged around the holding pens  anyway Gremlin now resides in Warrington pulling a little cart :)

Here's Chris (aka why1040) with the chap in her life:

He's a handsome bugger  :D

Although my favourite horse photo that I've taken recently is of one of the other smelly quadrupeds at Chris's yard.  Long lens, long shadows, golden evening light:

Some horses I saw at about 2,400 metres in Andorra last year. They seem to be clipped, so there's a market for the hair. There was a big group of them, nice to see horse behaviour in a fairly natural setting, apart from the clanging. They might have been a draft horse breed in the past, but are now destined for the table. A video shows the context better.

Some lovely shots here, thanks everyone.  Damon, I loved the video.  The horses certainly knew to get off the hill when the storm came, which I imagine happens a lot in Andorra!

Horses are prone to snuffing it from lightning strikes. If they are standing radially close to the point of the strike the potential difference between the fore and hind legs can stop their hearts. A ranger told us that he'd seen over 20 Griffon Vultures feeding on a horse that had been killed by lightning.

I've forgotten how to upload pics (I recall it wasn't straight forward).

I want to be a Proud Dad and post a pic of my youngest who has just won the Best Rider trophy at school. It's a crap photo and the only horse in it is made of bronze - but it does contain the world's biggest grin.

You can't upload directly to YACF, so upload to your favourite photo hosting site and post a link here surrounded by [ img ] and [ /img ] (without the spaces).

I think it may be a Fell Pony, looks to small for a Frisian or it could just be a Heinz 57  :)
