A turn through Spalding to that favourite cafe in Holbeach?  There's a brisk southerly breeze down here in the smoke so hope its more benign in the fens

My money's on Frankie & Benny's.

Edit: it looks more like Sainsbury's.

E or NE up here - perfect for a blast across the fens to MK (assuming that's where he's headed). They've played the weather game really well these past couple of days.

Too late to head east and use the wind so heading home to do extra miles when the wind drops

I passed a Gibbons Cycles in Spalding and it is a Raleigh shshop, does that count as a gibbon?

Methinks Steve is more into this forumite humour malarkey than we are.

Vote Steve (other lesser cyclists are available. T+Cs may apply.)

Was the Gibbons cycles funky? Do they know of their moment of temporary fame? ARE THEY WORTHY?

Did I see a Double Spalding?  If the Fens are going to be Mile Eating territory later in the year, this could be the new Marsh Gibbon.   :o

It could even be that Steve has actively chosen a more remote loop with a view to creating the same fervour currently attached to Marsh Gibbon?

I see Steve has stopped at a level crossing at Holme, just south of Peterborough. Busy line, that.

I heard there was a broken 125 engine and they asked Steve if he could give it a tow.

Damnation-  I was in Whittlesey yesterday.
ISTR that the road across the fen goes through one of the Ordnance Survey grid squares with the lowest number of mapping features .

This, allegedly, is the feature-free km squ.

Only the electricity lines cross it. Even the pylons are outside.

IIRC one corner of the pylon is inside the square.  We had inside information when this last came up in the Other Place (the grid square is one of the notable landmarks on the Hull FNRttC).

136mi on the tracker at 3pm - looks good for another big score today.

How far is it from Gibbon Cycles to Marsh Gibbon.  There could be a Gibbon - Gibbon - Gibbon perm to be set up.
