Track nuts for an Alfine hub.
« on: 13 January, 2014, 05:49:24 pm »
Alfine hubs aren't fitted with tracknuts. As a result one of the nuts (I cannot be bothered to figure out which one) has a tendency to slacken over time. I want to fit tracknuts, since I figure the captive washer should reduce this tendency.

So, will Dura Ace track nuts fit? Anyone tried this?
HubJub stock them, so I could e-mail them, but someone here might have already given it a go.

Haven't tried that combination but aren't Dura-Ace axles 10x1mm? Alfines are (all?) 3/8" x 26TPI.
Wheel meet again, don't know where, don't know when...

Is this not just a case for a tube of Loctite Thread Lock (other brands are available...). You will still be able to release the nut on the road to mend a puncture (though you might need a bit more force to release), but it will reduce the risk of the nut slackening off over time. I bough my last tube for about £3 from my local motorist discount and have found I've used it for all sorts of pesky jobs around the house as well. I use threadlock on my folder to stop the hinge tensioning screw to start moving on its own.
