Can anybody suggest a good weather app, particularly one that shows real-time radar, that works well in France? I use one often where I am (eastern U.S.) but I'm certain it will not work in France. I have an iPhone btw.

Give Windy a try, the app has just had radar and satellite imagery added.

Windy's OK, but they don't update their data often enough. T'other thing is that on my tablet's browser they give the wind speeds in knots, so you need to double them to get a rough kph figure - which is OK as long as you don't forget. 40 kph gusts aren't all that bad to ride in, but 80 kph'll have you off the road. Can't change it in the settings.

I downloaded it. Interestingly it works in the U.S. also. Am I missing something as I was hoping for radar, as in moving radar. This has radar but it's static (just one frame, you can't tell where the rain is going). Is there a way to have dynamic radar?

Lots of options in settings ... I’ve just tried playing around with it on an iPad. For wind speed you can use all the usual kph, mph, Beaufort, etc. You need an account to save the settings.

Epic Ride Weather app is the best. If you've split your GPS route into sections it'll work even better. Small cost for the app itself but 100% worth it.

meteox.com is the best I've used in France; experience suggests it's usually right.

40mph winds forecast up the Channel for our Poole-Cherbourg crossing am Friday. Added Stugeron to the list of pills to be carried. Headwinds to Brest looking increasingly likely. Hope they're matched by tailwinds.

That's all you really need to know, isn't it? It's not as if you can look at the forecast and decide not to ride today. Just be prepared for all reasonably possibilities and take them as they come.

Ah, but we want to anticipate exactly what kind of fun we are going to have! Good point though - LEL - perfect wetthen cold then really stormy wet then windy. Only thing missing was hot, but that's easy you just take stuff off.

You really shouldn't be worrying about the detail of a forecast this far out. I think a headwind to Brest is pretty standard, though.

but knowing what the weather is likely to do in the next two hours, can influence deciding to stop to eat or sleep at a control, or pushing on. Rain all day, fine get on with it, dry all day even better, but patchy rain can be avoided

the timeline at the bottom lets you see the forecast intervals, EURad gives a short period of prediction following the current time at 10min intervals

When it rained in 2015 there were some drowned rats stopped hiding under trees as the Northern Europeans with mudguards carried on riding as normal. If it turns very hot the opposite will be true as Northern Europeans seek water and shelter whilst every one else rides at their normal temps.

It's a bit far out to be sure, but it looks highly likely there'll be a moderate low pressure system squatting over Brittany during PBP, and this will mean mild/cool weather, a bit of cloud, a breeze (westerly most likely) and maybe some showers.
Should suit UK riders very well :-)

Aha! Yes. I see that now. I am just too new to the app. Very cool. Particularly nice is their prediction of where the clouds are going. Thanks.

current long range forecast looks favourable - some headwind/crosswind on the way out, mild temperatures without big day/night swings ( =less faffage with clothing and no need for electrolytes), occasional light rain.
