Title: April fools 2022
Post by: bhoot on 01 April, 2022, 10:36:28 am
I was expecting to log on this morning and find a topic, but nothing obvious. So I will kick off with this from the Graun  (https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/apr/01/tory-mps-lobby-no-10-to-let-royal-family-use-seized-russian-superyacht?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other/url)

The Western Isles weather guy led with a very good forecast warning of 'purple rain' (due to evaporation from beet farms).

Early start

The team are up early, checking the vehicles and topping-up the blue lights before going out on patrol

My new electricity bill. Although sadly I suspect it's not an April fool.

I saw that and just thought it was business corruption as usual...

One for the photographers from Capture One

https://twitter.com/captureonepro/status/1509788421950164992

Quote
From 2023 Capture One will no longer support RAW images.
Our new focus will be JPEG.

We will slowly transform the Capture One Pro desktop app, but you will still be able to work with RAW until we move to JPEG.

Release date coming soon!

(For the non-photographers, Capture One's Raisin of Etre is RAW)

I remain unconvinced of the existence of a Tory MP yclept “Shiv R M’Timbers”, still less that such a Unit would say:

After all, the royals have a rich history of taking things that don’t belong to them, and never giving them back! But don’t quote me on that!

Today is Chris Grayling's birthday.

Sorry, this post is off topic because it really is.

I read an article about a Garda Inspector complaint about poor face topiary with a quote from him saying that they looked like badly watered lawns in a drought.

Dipped into twitter today - best avoided; Poe's law almost imploding.  People having to say 'this is not a joke'...  AF threads lingering on.

"Ooh goody" thought your correspondent "A shiny! new! video from This Old Tony on that YouTube they have these days."

One minute later: "Git".

"Oh, I bet it's an April Fool and he just karate-chops it square when the camera is off." thinks I.

Having watched the video, it's worse than that.  Aluminimum!  I'd like to see him try the same trick with stainless steel.

yup, I was momentarily excited to see a new TOT video, especially as they have been thin on the ground of late. Although, my initial thought was, ‘but he’s done that before’…

Regarding the second of those videos, I wonder if Oscar's Dad has seen this thread? ;)

It appears that you can indeed buy a copy of the Peters Edition of John Cage's 4' 33". https://www.google.com/search?q=peters+edition+john+cage+4%27+33%22&oq=peters+edition+john+cage+4%27+33%22&aqs=chrome..69i57j0i22i30j0i390l5.8174j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

My all time favourite is still the soluble pint of Guiness page which appeared in the national newspapers many years ago. As soon as you popped it into a glass and filled with water, April Fool appeared.

BBC Radio Orkney had one asking for landowners to donate land alongside the Stromness to Kirkwall road for building a cycle lane.

In return they could get vouchers off the cost off a new bike.

Not funny and sad that the concept of providing provision for cycling is seem as a 'joke' by the BBC.
