I've bought a Motorola L6 on ebay, to replace a similar broken one, from which I've extracted the SIM card.
Phone was sold as being locked to Orange UK and I've put in the Orange PAYG card.
Phone now asks me for an unlock code, which I don't have.
I've sent a message to the vendor via ebay but had no response as yet.
I was sent the original box and receipt.
The phone seems otherwise very nice.
What should I do next?
I'm going to a CTC committee meeting this evening...

there are unlock tools for free on t'web
I have an L7 that was locked to Voda and now it isn't :)

Free? I've seen sites which charge.
I'll do some more googling.
I have to say I'm disappointed I couldn't just use this phone.

I think it might not be the network lock that is the issue, more the handset lock. Be careful, it might be 3 strikes and out (and the person you bought it from might have already had 2 tries!!!)

Quite. That's why I won't try anything yet!
There's a wealth of information on the original Carphone Warehouse receipt, though it appears the home address has changed since the phone was purchased, some 14 months ago.

Free?
Free. It takes a bit of poking about as I recall.

I've got an unlocking tool on the machine over there. >
Well, strictly speaking it's not an unlocking tool , but a delve inside the phone tool, showing the handset unlock code in clear text.
<wanders across room>
Bugger, must have deleted it. I'll keep looking.

Vendor has sent me the correct code. I am happy...
