I strained a muscle at my daughter's school tug of war (don't ask), and then made it worse by bike riding.
I then went on one of those go ape tree climbing things (yes again with my daughter) and made it much worse, then finally rested it for a week and I thought it was better. Now first time back on the bike it's really aching again. Not happy.
Any advice?
I know, stay off the bike. If I try and ride lazily without pulling hard on the handlebars, especially on the hills it isn't too bad. :(

ok its TWO MONTHS later, and I thought I'd bump this up.
Basically, it got a lot worse before it got a lot better. But it still aches if I go out for more than an hours riding. Anyone else ever had such a long lasting and annoying muscle strain?

No, they've always cleared up in a couple of weeks for me. Medics?

Where is the pain and what movement causes it?

Don't suppose there's any chance you actually cracked a rib is there?

IMO there's a good chance of a cracked rib. X-rays are usually not worthwhile as cracks often don't show and treatment is of symptoms.
My possible cracked rib caused pain for nearly 4 months, not the textbook 3 weeks.

I used to get this loads. It was caused by driving round corners too fast :-[ without clenching my abdominal muscles. Never had it since I worked this out.

How many Gs can you pull in your wife's MX-5 Roger?

The pain has gone, I'm just left with it aching after I ride, especially if there is a lot of pulling up on the handlebars, like going uphill. I guess I just have to wait longer. When it was bad I couldn't lift anything.
Can't see me cracking a rib on tug of war, or hanging on to zip wires pretty sure its muscular.
Thanks anyway! I feel better just having some replies!

That was mainly in one of these.

No anti-roll bars and it was said that, when taking a left-hand bend at speed, you had to drive it from the passenger seat.

People have cracked ribs from coughing.
You might well have strained a ligament - these can take forever to heal.

It is taking forever! It is improving very slowly.
Injuries fall into 2 categories:
1. Ones that you can still ride with.
2. Ones that you can't ride with.
It took 2 months to go from cat 2 to 1 (something I shall never achieve in any other sense ;)). I should be thankful for that I guess.
