Physios ban *everyone* from running.
Unless they sell you the expensive gait/body/foot/shoe/etc analysis with appropriate running shoe recommendation and suggested training routine package.
I also find it very boring. I can get out into the 'wilderness' on a bike for an hour but would struggle to get out of suburbia by running.
It took me about 8 sessions (20 to 30 minutes each) of running on the treadmill before I got used to it enough that I could zone out and not think about how excruciatingly dull it was. This is in a windowless gym in the basement of our office building with the only distractions available being an mp3 player and a laminated "WIPE DOWN MACHINE AFTER USE" sign on the wall in right front of me. *thump* *thump* *thump*
My plan is to build up to running to/from work (~10km) a few times a week. At the weekend I'll cycle the hackbike down to Richmond Park, lock it up at the gates, run one 10km lap and cycle home.
Luckily I got the Rejected magazine from this year's London Marathon public ballot entry so I'm in no rush.
