Mid 1960's regional championship.

The breakaway started in Glamis Village. Peem Brewster and Barry Carnegie (both Dundee Thistle) nip off the front.

Gaining time, the duo speed down Lumley Glen

The finish in Tealing. Carnegie takes it from Brewster with the chasing pack out of sight.

Open roads. They are still not particularly busy (except the bit that now goes down the A90) This was nearly 50 years ago, and some things haven't changed.

I notice not a single chap has a pipe! Which is a worrying trend!!
Certainly never seen cycling south of Sussex

Nickname. No idea where it came from (unlike our club chairmans nickname of 'Fred' [1]). He used to own a bike shop before he retired and can still give a good kicking on the hills.
Barry (possibly the best all round cyclist ever from north of the Tay) had to retire from competitive cycling due to rheumatoid arthritis but now, with prosthetic joints in knees and hips, still churns out the miles over the Perthshire hills.

..d

[1] Local club awards dinner in the early 70's. Sits down next to an empty seat at the table. 'Is anyone sitting there' says the waitress bringing the soup course. 'Oh aye, that's Fred's seat. He'll be back in a moment'. So the soup was left. and consumed by 'Fred' as were the rest of the courses.
