Members of the family and a couple neighbours wanted to go over to Lewis. Miss J (aged 13) said she'd like to cycle so we examined the weather forecast and it looked good.
She and I cycled out to the stones at Callaniash. Pretty much the route I did with windy last week. The initial burst of sun was a cruel trick. At one point we had to hide behind a brick gatepost as a dark mass of wind and rain swept in. I expected us to be slow but the gps track I've got shows several downhill sections of ride averaging 8mph over 2 miles.
Fortified by cake and my getting up an 18% hill we set off back. Uphill sections of 2 miles averaging 15.5 mph. That made up for the pain of the way out (several times I'd asked her if we should turn back - being cold and wet in that wind was horrible).
Her longest ride, at 35miles, and a roaring success, apparently!
