strange 705 behaviour
« on: 09 November, 2010, 01:59:44 pm »
On the Upper Thames on Saturday my 705 behaved in three different ways.

I set up the route on BikeHike, initially plotting the first section to Waterperry and saving it, then reloading it from disk and adding the last two sections. I saved it as GPXX directly to the device.

In use I had it beeping at me, and from the 2nd control onwards, had it powered from my battery, so the backlight was on all the time.

This is how it behaved:

1st Section - Perfect. All turns flagged up as I'd expect
2nd Section - Oddly annoying, was repetitively telling me to go straight on roads etc. Also wouldn't cancel an alert turn after I had passed its location
3rd Section - Almost no alerts at all. I had to keep an eye on the screen

I can't see how I can get three different behaviours from one file? In controls I locked the keypad, but that was all.
It is simpler than it looks.

I had that once on one of the LEL sections. Never did find out what caused it (it was as though it was in some odd off-road navigation mode, telling me to ride in a particular direction, which followed the road, rather than following the road).

Was it a route or a track?

Whatever the gpxx choice on bike hike gives, a route I think.
It is simpler than it looks.

How did you add the other two sections? I would say the answer lies there.
