Today's ride to work was awful. The first 5 miles were into a direct headwind. I even felt the wind on the climbs, which are normally sheltered from the wind a bit. On the flat sections I was riding at about 11 mph as the wind whipped my hair into my eyes. This was a drag, but ploddable. About 3/4 of the way into work there is a long downhill section through a large village with a roundabout at the bottom. It's always a careful balance trying to slow down for the roundabout whilst going fast enough to discourage motorists from overtaking near the roundabout. The road was wet and as I approached the roundabout I saw a couple of cars entering to my right, so I squeezed the brakes a little to come to a stop.
Cue both wheels locking up as I am on a diesel patch. Bike moves sideways. At this point my brain kicked in and I let go of the brakes and I rolled onto the roundabout, mostly upright. I had to take the first exit to avoid the cars coming from my right, so added another hill to my journey
At work, the whole building is coned off while the cracks in the newly laid path are fixed. I have to carry my bike 300 m through the cones to get into the front door
I think this is all punishment because I didn't go out training yesterday because it was raining.
