Brain-freeze when cycling?
« on: 09 August, 2011, 08:18:39 pm »
Just recently when I'm about ten minutes into a ride I get a dull pain in the roof of my mouth which moves up the sides of my head to my temples, where it stays for a few minutes and then dissipates. The pain is similar to 'brain-freeze' we sometimes get from cold drinks or ice cream. What puzzles me is this is happening in warm weather.

I have normal blood pressure, no heart condition or anything.

Any ideas as to what this could be?

Rapid massive intake of cool air through your mouth?
Air temp may be a pleasant 20C, body temp 37C. I suspect nose breathing may help but not be possible...

Sounds like a sinus blockage - pain moves around as the pressures within the system equalise.

Steam inhalation might help a bit.
