Active X in powerpoint on mac
« on: 20 February, 2012, 07:14:32 pm »
I have been given a powerpoint presentation to use which has a small animation that works on my colleagues windows laptop, but not on my mac book pro. When I open the presentation I get the message to the effect that the presentation will not work because it uses Active X.

Is there a work around for this?

TIA.

Not that I know of, short of running a virtual Windows machine. Google threw up a few applications that claimed they'd run ActiveX controls, but I wouldn't be optimistic.

ActiveX was sort of supported in IE 5, which was the final version on the Mac, some time ago (2003 says Google). That was the end of it. Windows only now.

If it is a small animation, is it important to the presentation?

TBH, given my experience of PowerPoint vs Keynote, I'd view the time spent recreating the presentation in Keynote would be well worth it.

Powerpoint is like Pile Cream. You think you need it, but when you find out that there is no need to be constipated in the first place you realise that you've been sold a pup. A very painful pup.
It is simpler than it looks.
