Burst capillaries in the eye
« on: 22 October, 2012, 08:37:31 am »
Recently my wife has had this happen 2 or 3 times. Yesterday morning she was fine, yesterday afterternoon the capillaries on the "inner" part of one of her eyes had burst, leaving it bright red. Doesn't hurt, doesn't affect vision, she's not sneezing a lot. Puzzled as to why it's happening, although a quick google doesn't throw up anything sinister as a cause.

rafletcher,

My wife has this from time to time.  It's pretty impressive but the doctor assures her it's nothing to worry about. No need to sharpen any sticks or put garlic round the door!

Common as muck.
Harmless.
Occasionally associated with high blood pressure.
Resolves in a few days.
Worry about something else!
Subconjunctival hæmorrhage is medical term.

That's what I'd sort of gathered already, I'll check her BP but it's not usually an issue (was a bit elevated when she was hyperthyroidic). Just odd it's started happening in the last 3-4 months, but hey, thats bodies for you  ::-)

Many parts of the human body get thin and weak with age.
Skin and capillary walls are examples.

Age!!! She's only 68! Just a girl  ;D

I'll not tell her that's the diagnosis  ;)
