Repairing Weston Meter
« on: 11 May, 2013, 10:44:41 am »
My weston meter is seriously under-reading. I've tried the zero-adjustment and that's not helped.

There's a little sticker on it that says 'calibrated NOV 92' - is it possible to recalibrate these? Google suggests a repair will be £90 + postage.

Is it worth taking it apart and giving it a good clean?

Which model?

They can be re-calibrated, but it might also be the cell dying.  Replacements can be fitted, but I only ever knew of one company doing it, it cost a lot, and I'm not even sure they're doing it any more. :(

I love my Weston (Master IV).

It's a Euro-Master.

I stupidly turned down the offer of my old man's Master V and I think it went to the auction.  :(

Actually, buying another one on ebay for a fiver might be easier than taking it apart...

Sadly, that's probably true. :(

If you are using a digital SLR or a bridge camera with manual override you could make a adaptor to take the Weston "Incident Cone" and hold that in front of the lens to get a light reading that way if you want an Incident light reading? Simples!  ::-)
