B+M hub dynamo charger
« on: 06 September, 2009, 06:03:11 am »
B+M have just introduced 2 new products at the Interbike show
A charger that links to a dynamo for batteries/phones/gps etc
Busch & Müller KG
Looks like a great idea for audax or touring and will save carrying pack of batteries.
And also further down the page a link for a universal cockpit adapter for smart phones/Iphones/gps etc

Dahon have come up with something as well: Charge your iPod with your bike - Bike Hugger

I know of some Aussie who has come up with one, including a solar panel option, but I have yet to find a price for his kit.
;D  Andrij.  I pronounce you Complete and Utter GIT

I know the Aussie gizmo- I bought one.
I've managed to kill it by riding too long while it was connected to the dynamo. The battery appears to have overheated and melted part of the casing.
The B&M gizmo seems to be the future (or at least part of it  ;))

The B&M info doesn't say if it's a choice between dyno lighting and charging. The ideal would be to be able to use both together.
With their "Ride and Charge" it was one or the other.

Is that B & M device really recommended to be 139€?

There's no protection against overcharging on the B&M unit either, right?

Well, there's this bit [my emphasis]:
Quote
the cyclist's muscle power does not have to be used by only the lighting fixtures but can alternatively be processed by E-WERK

...which seems to suggest one or the other, not both.

So for longer audaxes, say, you'll have to make sure you charge up the GPS during the daytime part of the ride. And hope the GPS can last a whole night on one charge.
