The B&M info doesn't say if it's a choice between dyno lighting and charging. The ideal would be to be able to use both together.
Well, there's this bit [my emphasis]:
the cyclist's muscle power does not have to be used by only the lighting fixtures but can alternatively be processed by E-WERK
...which seems to suggest one or the other, not both.
So for longer audaxes, say, you'll have to make sure you charge up the GPS during the daytime part of the ride. And hope the GPS can last a whole night on one charge.
