good D or U shackle type locks
« on: 01 December, 2009, 11:50:58 am »
 hello all,
I have just got my old steely back after a single speed conversion, and it looks and rides like a dream.  and I want to use it a lot more  for around town and just general riding,  so I don't really want some "tea leaf  'arf inching"  it  so I would like to buy a good lock.

any one got any recommends.

thanks
Phill

Don't listen to Clarion .  He's an old codger.   ;)

An Abus Granit compared to a Kryptonite New York 3000 is the equivalent of cantilever brakes compared to plush, powerful Hope disks, or gas pipes  compared to titanium for frame tubes.    ;D

Ask your insurance company.

Seriously, ANY lock can be cut, all you can do is use a lock (and locking technique) that means your insurance company will cough up the dough.

Kryptonite locks used to have a circular key which was prone.  They replaced all locks with this key type more than three years ago, maybe even longer with locks with a blade key.   I have three locks replaced and have since purchased a fourth.   They have not worn out, they have different duties and are all deployed in eh bunker bar one, which sits awaiting use on the bike to be ridden.

I had lost four locked bikes to light-fingered Lenny, including one secured with an Abus, before I bought my first Kryptonite in 2000.   Since then Lenny has had to look elsewhere.

The ultimate U-lock, but it's heavy as H... and not pratical.

So I'll join the rest and say Abus Granite or  Kryptonite Evolution mini
